Bad Vigaun
Bad Vigaun was first mentioned between 741 and 748 AD. The name Vigaun presumably harks back to the Latin “vicone”, meaning a large or stretched out village. Bad Vigaun is situated 15 km south of the Mozart city of Salzburg in amongst the wonderful gourmet region of Tennengau, a place where breathtaking nature with high mountains and clean rivers combines with delicious culinary delights that are sure to have you under their spell.
Spa baths and the Bad Vigaun medicinal centre
Many years ago, the St. Barbara spring was discovered in what is known today as Bad Vigaun. The healing properties of the spring water were not long in question, which led to the public spa baths and the Bad Vigaun medicinal centre being built on the site of the spring. Still today, hot healing water from the St. Barbara spring continually flows to the surface, feeding the therapy pools with soothing thermal water at a temperature of 34°C. The water source is about 1300 m underground, and has beneficial properties for joint complaints, the spine and muscular system, rheumatism, and general conditions of tiredness and exhaustion.
